Starting in the 1980s, the US Olympic Committee instituted sport psychology practices to train Olympic athletes in the psychological components of performance. For the first time, athletes began to prioritize skills such visualization, goal setting, and self-talk, among others, to account for variables that may influence their ability to achieve greatness.

We train the deliberate development of key high-performance skills. Human performance is regulated through cognitive, emotional, motivational, and decision-based processes, therefore, performers must invest in the development of skills such as mindfulness, threat response control, mindset discipline, energy management, attention control, and visualization to build out the mental and emotional foundation that enables elite performance.

The results often mean improved intangibles such as perceptions of individual or organizational credibility, competence, trustworthiness, and confidence. And, of course, results positively affect measurable tangibles, including better performance, customer satisfaction, closed sales, increased revenue, and improved retention – the metrics that show-up on everything from sports scoreboards to sales leaderboards.

Our Team of Executive Coaches

Our team of executive coaches have extensive experience in leadership development and hold graduate degrees (i.e., Ph.D., M.A., M.S.) in Sport and Performance Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Communication, and beyond. Our coaches are also certified from nationally renowned organizations such as the International Coaching Federation, the Association for Applied Sports Psychology, and the Society of Industrial Organizational Psychology.

Dr. Donnie Horner – SVP, Human Capital Solutions

Dr. Donnie Horner is a seasoned administrator, leader, author, and consultant in academe, the private sector, government, and the military. A West Point graduate and former Army Football QB, Donnie earned his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Stanford University and an M.S. in Transportation Systems from MIT.  As a career Army officer, he commanded a company in Panama during conflict and Army battalions in Bosnia and stateside.  He worked for President Bill Clinton, several U.S. Army Chiefs of Staff, and served as the Education Commissioner for the City of Jacksonville and Mayor Alvin Brown – the first African American Mayor in the City’s history. He is an expert in culture transformation, change management, mergers/acquisitions, and organizational alignment.

Dr. Eric Bean – Director of High Performance

Dr. Eric Bean is HigherEchelon’s Director of High Performance. Eric holds a Ph.D. in Sports and Exercise Psychology from Michigan State University, and has spent his professional career educating, training, and coaching on the application of performance psychology to leadership and corporate environments. Eric’s approach focuses on the mental and emotional elements of performance. Eric has applied this approach in numerous settings including corporate, medical, military, and professional sports. Eric has developed leadership training programs for surgeons, corporate executives, special forces, and many other audiences.  ​

 

Dr. Angie Winter – Director of Leadership Development

Dr. Angie Winter is a certified mental performance consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) and is working towards her certification as an Associate level coach through the International Coaching Federation (ICF). Dr. Winter has worked on multiple government contracts providing leadership development and cognitive enhancement training, as well as in multiple university athletic departments.
